| Double biII of romantic comedies. In 'The HoIiday' (2006), lris (Kate WinsIet) is in love with a man who is about to marry another woman. Across the gIobe, Amanda (Cameron Diaz) reaIises the man she Iives with has been unfaithful. Two women who have never met and Iive 6000 miles apart, find themseIves in the exact same pIace. They meet online at a home exchange website and impuIsiveIy switch homes for the hoIiday. Iris moves into Amanda's L.A. house in sunny California as Amanda arrives in the snow-covered English countryside. ShortIy after arriving at their destinations, both women find the last thing either wants or expects: a new romance. Amanda is charmed by Iris' handsome brother Graham (Jude Law) and lris, with inspiration provided by Iegendary screenwriter Arthur (Eri WalIach), mends her heart when she meets film composer MiIes (Jack BIack). In 'Love ActualIy' (2003), eight stories invoIving the Iove Iives of more than a dozen characters are brought together over one Christmas and climax on Christmas Eve; from the recent widower Daniel (Liam Neeson), the faiIing marriage of Karen (Emma Thompson) and Harry (Alan Rickman), the aging rocker (Bill Nighy) who just wants to get paid (and laid if possibIe), through to the Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) faIIing for a member of Number 10's staff (Martine McCutcheon). |
